What are Comets? Icy bodies Orbits Snow line Atmophile Solid material Sublimates Atmosphere
Comets? Outer reaches of the kuiper belt Source Short period comets Releases gas and dust Solar wind
Short period comets Orbital periods Time scale Human history 200 years or less
What are Comets? Solid Bodies Icy and silicates components Inner Solar system Active Begins to sublimate
Comet Structure Nucleus- contains Solid ices and dust sized grains of refractory material. Coma- the atmosphere of water vapor and CO2 that sublimates from the nuclues. Dust tail- smoked sized Particles and 10 million km long. Gas Tail- using the solar wind and interplanetary magnetic field they form a Ion or a Gas tail.
