What were the key events from the story?

What was most meaningful to you from this story?

Chapter Notes Chapter 10 begins with Hannah becoming pregnant with Samuel (pg. 130). “I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life…” Samuel ministered as Eli’s “apprentice.” God called Samuel to be his prophet. (pg. 132) Does God call us? How? Philistines captured the Ark of the Covenant How did God use it against the Philistines?

Chapter Notes Israel wanted a king “such as all the other nations have” (pg. 135). The LORD told Samuel, “…they have rejected me as their king.” How did Israel reject God as their king? After Samuel warned Israel that their king would be sinful – they still demanded a king! (pg. 136) Samuel annointed Saul as king of Israel (pg. 137) Saul was 30 years old when he became king and reigned for 40 years.

Chapter Notes Saul sinned against God many times (pgs. 142 & 143) He was a jealous and impatient man. Samuel warned Saul that his time was up. It was time to find a successor. What are the Upper Story connections from Chapter 10?

On your worksheet… Under “Join The Story,” answer one of the questions.

Group Discussion Questions

Why do you think God allowed the Israelites to have a king?

Can you think of a time when you tried to “take matters into your own hands” instead of obeying God?
