Introduction Every car, no matter what model or brand has the same basic systems. Each system works in harmony to propel, direct, and stop a vehicle. The basic systems of a vehicle include: Braking Power plant Transmission 4-Wheel/all wheel drive Fuel Lubrication Cooling Heating and A/C Electrical Steering Suspension Emissions Safety

Task Students will work in groups of 2 The instructor will assign you an automotive system to research. Your group will be responsible for researching the required information. You will use the internet as your primary source of information. Your group will then be responsible for presenting the information to the rest of the class. You will use the PowerPoint program for your presentation.

Process Get into your group (remember groups of TWO) Receive your groups assigned vehicle system from the instructor. Using the internet, research your assigned vehicle system. Using the information from your research, create a PowerPoint presentation. Present your findings to the class.

Process Your PowerPoint should contain the following items: - Function of the system Brief history First vehicle to use system and how it was different from current Components of the system Common failures of the system (what breaks, how, and why?) Current innovations to the system (what's new?) Supporting pictures

Evaluation Your PowerPoint and presentation will be evaluated based on the following criteria: PowerPoint (50 points) At least 6 content slides (15 points) Includes accurate information on the 6 required items (20 points) Title/Bibliography page (10 points) Supporting images (5 points) Presentation (30 points) Eye contact (5 points) Voice projection (5 points) Prepared (5 points) Organized (5 points) Adds information not on the slide, uses PowerPoint to enhance presentation (10 points)

Teachers This web quest is designed for a high school (grades 10-12) Land Transportation course. The intent of this project is for students to gain knowledge through research, teaching each other about a vehicles systems and making the connection on how they work together. This project should take approximately seven 40 minute class periods to complete. The presentations should take approximately two to three 40 minute class periods depending on class size.
