Effects - Urethra/Males Vagina/Females Chlamydia A bacterial infection Effects - Urethra/Males Vagina/Females Symptoms – pain/burning during urination & discharge from the penis or vagina Can cause sterility
Gonorrhea A bacterial infection Effects – urethra/males cervix/vagina Symptoms – pain/burning during urination & discharge from the penis or vagina Symptoms can take up to 3 weeks to appear and can go away but disease is still there
Trichomoniasis A vaginal infection that can lead to urethra and bladder infections. Symptoms – burning and itching vagina/penis and discharge and painful urination
Genital Warts (HPV) Cauliflower like warts on the genitals. Not curable. Can cause cervical cancer in females There is an HPV vaccine
Blisterlike sores on the genitals. Not curable Genital Herpes Blisterlike sores on the genitals. Not curable Sores can be present for three weeks

S & S of Syphilis Primary stage: A reddish sore called a chancre. Secondary stage: A rash on the chest, arms, legs, and genitals. Latent stage: signs and symptoms disappear, however, it is attacking the heart and blood vessels. Neurosyphilis stage: All organs are affected. Loss of abilities. No cure.
Other STDs Pubic Lice - tiny insects that live in the pubic hair. Scabies - infestation of mites that cause red, swollen, bumps on the skin. Hepatitis B - a virus that attacks the liver. HIV – virus that causes AIDS
