Lecture Objectives By the end of this lecture, the student pharmacist will be able to : Describe the role of the pharmacist in the current system of healthcare delivery. Compare and contrast the practice of pharmacy in the US and other countries. Explain existing and potential opportunities for the profession consequent to the Accountable Care Act.

What do pharmacists do? Write an “Elevator speech about the role of pharmacists in healthcare.

Text a Friend or Family Member Text a family member or friend and ask them their perception of the pharmacist as a healthcare provider.

What are other countries doing? What is the scope of practice for pharmacists in other countries? What is the scope of healthcare in other countries?

Group Work Create a commercial, radio ad, or billboard that educates the public about the expanded roles of pharmacists. The ad should include at least one “right and privilege” for consumers to services by pharmacists. At least five references on innovative pharmacy practices should be included. Be prepared to show group work in class next week.
