Repetition and free verse Elements of Diction

Repetition in a song or poem refers to a word or phrase that occurs multiple times throughout the piece. Why might an author choose to repeat a certain word or phrase? To emphasize a main idea or theme in the piece To add to the rhyme or meter of a piece Repetition

“Free Verse” refers simply to a song or poem that does not have a regular rhyme or meter.

Practice with free verse and repetition Using the word you selected from the board, write a free verse poem that uses the word in every line. Think about multiple meanings or different ways in which your word could be used. Aim for a minimum of 10 lines. Practice with free verse and repetition
