Monday, April 24th Short Story Unit: Day 1

Agenda Bell Ringer Plot Diagram Activity

Bell Ringer Choose ONE, complete the sentence and finish the story: I have never done anything unpredictable, but that changed today when I woke up, packed a bag, went to the airport and randomly bought a ticket to __________.  Take your favorite TV show character of all time and put him or her into a different show that you enjoy. The character should be surprised to be in unfamiliar territory, but should interact with the other characters and, if possible, help them solve a problem. You can make up a scene or insert... You and a friend have decided to try and follow a rainbow to see if the end holds a pot of gold. But when you finally reach the end, you find something much more valuable than a pot of gold—and it changes your life. Write this scene.

Plot Diagram The Plot Diagram is the skeletal structure of every story. Sometimes it’s referred to as a “witch’s hat”. Every movie, television show, play, book, etc. follow the basic outline structured within a plot diagram. A plot diagram is made up of five components: Exposition Rising Action Climax Falling Action Resolution

Plot Diagram

Plot Diagram Exposition: Who (Protagonist(s)/Antagonist(s)), where (America, Earth, Narnia, etc.), and when (past, present, future) Rising Action: Progression of events the Protagonist(s) undergo leading up to the climax. Climax: The height of action in the story. It’s the part where the main character(s) are changed somehow (the big boss battle, the plot twist, the antagonist reveal). Falling Action: The aftermath of the climax, the after-effects. Resolution: The conclusion, or the “to be continued”, the ending point for that particular story arc.

Plot Diagram English 3: Honors: I want you to complete a plot diagram for “The Road” Honors: I want you to complete a plot diagram for the book your read for your IRP.

ATTENTION: Take your IRP projects home with you today! Grab them on your way out. If you do not want it, throw it away in the BATHROOM TRASH CANS please. If you do not see your project, it means I probably kept it. Starting today, I will reduce 5 points a day, everyday, from your final grade for every day that your project remains in my room.
