Godliness in the Midst of Chaos Bible Survey Ruth Theme Godliness in the Midst of Chaos The story of Ruth takes place during the time of the judges (1:1). Judges illustrates the continual decline of the people of Israel into godlessness and idolatry and God’s continued faithfulness to them regardless. Ruth demonstrates a strain of righteousness that exists even in the midst of the chaos and anarchy of this era of Israel’s history.

Bible Survey Ruth Purpose of Writing On one level, Ruth is written simply to give some of the origins of the house of David. It demonstrates that David’s house and lineage is godly and faithful to the Lord. On another level, Ruth is written to demonstrate that true faithfulness to God is always possible, even in the midst of a society that continuously denies him.

Bible Survey Ruth Place in the Canon The book of Ruth serves many functions in the Bible. First, it demonstrates the origins of the Davidic line. Second, it demonstrates the necessity for faithfulness to the Lord even in the midst of a faithless culture. Third, it demonstrates that even gentiles are accepted when they come to the Lord in faith.
