Matteo Crovetto – matteo.crovetto@unimi.it In 2017 the course will be held each Wednesday from 2:30 to 6:30 pm in classroom C10 since March 1st until June 7th The course grants 6 CFU and is open to interactive sections with presentations from the participants and related discussion. Overview of the present situation in terms of development/under-development in the various geographic areas of the world. Gap between income and population density. Food excess and shortage in the world. Problems linked to increasing demography and urbanism. The different crop and livestock systems in the world. Erosion, desertification and the grazing systems. The “mixed” systems. Landless farms and animal rearing systems: social and environmental aspects. Intensive animal husbandry: damage, opulence or opportunity? International Cooperation and Developing Countries. The NGOs. Planning of development projects: from the analysis of the needs to the description of the project, its implementation and subsequent monitoring. Case studies of agricultural/livestock development projects. The role of the counterpart and that of the extension service.
