Layout Drawings and Mechanical Assembly Drawings Clarifications on definitions S. Chemli , Y. Muttoni EN-ACE 2017-03-06 Layout and Assembly Drawings - S. Chemli, Y. Muttoni, D. Perini

Layout and Assembly Drawings - S. Chemli, Y. Muttoni, D. Perini Definitions Writing of a technical note “Layout and Mechanical Drawings for Beam Equipment devices in the Accelerators” Common document between ACE (Y.Muttoni, S. Chemli) and MME (D. Perini) Started after a few discussions with EN-MME and TE-VSC Presented to the DOP – Design Office Planning – of EN-MME on the 7th of March Still needs to be circulated and agreed EDMS 1760014 2017-03-06 Layout and Assembly Drawings - S. Chemli, Y. Muttoni, D. Perini

Layout and Assembly Drawings - S. Chemli, Y. Muttoni, D. Perini Layout Drawings A layout drawing shows the sequence of collider functions as (they will be) installed in their final location. It is typically composed of: Mechanical and magnetic longitudinal dimension Cumulated distances Vacuum sectors (sometimes) Height of the beam with respect to the ground Slope and tilt of the machine Profile and dimension of vacuum chamber (usually not indicated on the layout drawing with the exception of the SPS machine) Hierarchy of machine regions (regions, sub-regions, periods, half-periods,…) when shown on some layout drawings are on a separate table, to avoid any confusion with a Bill Of Material. They are framed in space by the regions of the machine (except before-and-after situation drawings) 2017-03-06 Layout and Assembly Drawings - S. Chemli, Y. Muttoni, D. Perini

Layout and Assembly Drawings - S. Chemli, Y. Muttoni, D. Perini Layout Drawings They show and mentions functional names and not equipment names. Typically Focusing and Defocusing magnets (QF/QD/QFA/QDA) are indicated and not equipment types (MQNLIFAWP fulfilling the QF or QD function). Some confusion might come from the LHC naming conventions where the functional code is (too) strictly equal to the equipment code. When looking in details to the LHC layout drawings, the functional code of the quadrupoles (e.g. Q11R2) are marked on the top of the equipment code (LQTCC). Two types of layout drawings Conceptual drawings where the drift space is materialized by a simple dotted line Consolidated layout drawings where the sequence od the vacuum elements is shown 2017-03-06 Layout and Assembly Drawings - S. Layout and Assembly Drawings - S. Chemli, Y. Muttoni, D. Perini Mechanical Drawings Mechanical drawings are part of the natural delivery of the Mechanical Design Office work. They represent the equipment itself, the way it is assembled or the way it is manufactured. They do not exceed the normal scope of the equipment designed Mechanical drawings showing assemblies – simple parts assembled or associated together – base their breakdown on types of equipment and not on functions. The parts and sub-assemblies are listed in the title-block within a Bill of Material. These drawings show all the necessary equipment to install or assemble what is shown. 2017-03-06 Layout and Assembly Drawings - S. Chemli, Y. Muttoni, D. Perini

Layout and Assembly Drawings - S. Chemli, Y. Muttoni, D. Perini Drilling Drawings The drilling information to fix the equipment to the ground could also be indicated on these drawings. Sometimes a dedicated and independent drawing is issued. Indications on the local tilt and slope, and on the beam directions – coming from the conceptual layout drawing – should be added to this drawing. The distance between the beam(s) and the survey target could also be added. 2017-03-06 Layout and Assembly Drawings - S. Chemli, Y. Muttoni, D. Perini

Layout and Assembly Drawings - S. Chemli, Y. Muttoni, D. Perini Some new requests have been made to the Design or Integration office to display outside the scope of a single equipment – fulfilling a function in the accelerator – the adjacent equipment with a level of details equal to the mechanical drawing. The expectation is to get a complete Bill of Material (screws, chains, supports,…) to install and connect the equipment with its neighbouring context. The space fitting in not linked to machine regions (periods, cells,…) These requests are to be considered as a separate job by the Mechanical Design Office. To be planned and integrated as new jobs. (decision from DOP on the 7th March – to be confirmed by B. Riffaud in the PLI meeting) 2017-03-06 Layout and Assembly Drawings - S. Chemli, Y. Muttoni, D. Perini
