Teacher Eligibility Test

TEACHER ELEGIBILITY TEST IGNACIO ESTRADA TEACHER ELEGIBILITY TEST

In accordance with the provision of sub section (1) of section 23 of the RTE Act 2009, the National council of Teacher Education had vide notification dated 23th August 2010 laid down the minimum qualification for person to be eligible for appoint as a teacher.

Essential qualification for a person to be eligible for a appointment as a teacher in any of the school refered to clause (n) of section 2 of RTE Act 2009 He/She should pass the Teacher eligibility Test. Which will be conducted by the appropriate Government accordance to the guidelines framed by NCTE

Guidelines for Right of children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009 Bound to recruit large number of teachers across the country in a time bound manner To ensure quality requirement for recruitment of teachers not diluted at any cost In accordance with the provisions of sub section 1 of section 23

The rational for including the TET as minimum qualification for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher is as under : It will bring national standard and benchmark of teacher quality in recruitment It would induce teacher education institution and students from these institutions to further improve their performance It would send a positive signal to all stakeholders that the government lays special emphasis on teacher quality

Eligibility : A person who has acquired the academic and professional qualification specified in NCTE, vide notification dated 23th August 2010 A person who is pursuing any of the Teacher Education Course recognized by NCTE The eligibility condition for appearing in TET may be relaxed in respect of state/UT which has been granted relaxation under Sub section(2) of section 23 of the RTE Act. The relaxation will be specified in the notification issued by central government under sub section

Structure and Content of TET All the question will be multiple choice questions(MCQ). Each question will carrying one mark with four alternative, out of which one answer will be correct There will be no negative marking There will be two papers of TET Paper I will be for a person who intended to be a teacher for class I to V Paper II will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for class VI to VIII A person who intends to be a teacher either for class I to V or for class VI to VIII will have to appear in both papers.

Structure and Content of paper I ( All the subjects are compulsory and total marks will be 150 ) sl Child development and Pedagogy Total MCQ Total marks 1. Language I 30 MCQ 30 marks 2. Language II 3o marks 3. Mathematics 4. Environmental studies 5. pedagogy

Nature and standard of questions Test items on child development and pedagogy Test items for language will focus on the proficiencies related to medium of instruction Language II will be from among the prescribed option other than language I The test items in language II will focus on elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities. The test Items in Mathematics and EVS will focus on the concept, problem solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of subjects

The questions in the test for paper I will be based on topics of the prescribed syllabus of the state for class I to V but their difficulty standard as well as linkage could be up to the secondary stage

The test items in Mathematics and science and Social studies will focus on concepts, Problem solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of the subjects The questions in the tests for papers will be based on the topics of prescribed syllabus of the state for class VI to VIII, but difficulty standard as well as linkage could be upto the senior secondary stage. Qualifying Marks : A person who scores 60% will be considered as TET pass Relaxation will considered as per extended reservation policy

Applicability : TET conducted by central government shall apply to all school refers to in sub clause (n) section 2 of the RTE Act TET conducted by a state government/UT with legislature shall apply to (I) a school of the state government/UT with legislature and local authority referred to in sub clause (II) of clause (n) of section 2 of RTE Act in the state /UT

Frequency of conduct of TET and validity period of TET certificate The appropriate government should conduct a TET atleast once every year The validity period of TET qualifying certificate for appointment will be decided by the appropriate government subject to maximum of seven years for all categories There will be no restriction on the number of attempts a person can take for acquiring a TET A person who qualified TET may also appear again for improvement of score

Procedure for conduct of Test : The examination body shall formulate a detailed procedure and laydown instruction for conduct of TET Legal Disputes : All legal disputes with regards to conduct of TET shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the appropriate government Award of TET certificate: The appropriate government conducting the test shall award a TET certificate to all successful candidates.
