MOOCs    Free or very low cost  Can give you a test of a subject  Low completion rates  Little personal attention

Coursera    Extremely diverse catalog  Extremely flexible deadline  Very easy to use forums   Not completely free  Quizzes are too lenient

Coursera’s Course Type Type 1 : Full Courses. you can choose to pay and get the certificate or just do the full course for free. Type 2 : 'premium' paid courses. These courses have 2 options:  Audit Only (free + no access to assignments) Certificate (full experience + certificate).  Type 3 : Free Courses. courses that are purely for learning, no certificates offered.

edX   Free  Quizzes are very rigorous and strict   The catalog isn't very diverse  The discussion forum is user-unfriendly  Infrequent offering

Coursera vs. edX Coursera edX type commercial Non-profit price Not exactly free diversity Coursera > edX sources 120+ 70+ courses 2000+ 1288 certificate US$49 US$25 credit  language more less app ios / android 
