Work shop A Motivational, Productive, ENGAGING

1. To introduce and apply teaching strategies through activities. My Goals: 1. To introduce and apply teaching strategies through activities. 2. Exercises to improve conversation abilities/ skills. 3. To encourage local English teachers to practice the use of the foreign language. 4. To encourage the use of TBLT lesson plans.

“Mirror… Mirror on the wall” Teaching strategy 1

Conversation skills will not improve if they are not applied. Break the silence Conversation skills will not improve if they are not applied. Role Model Focus on action The purpose of this teaching strategy is to encourage proper body language and verbal communication when having a “face to face” conversation.. |

Let’s give it a try! Please stand and form a line… asking.” Teacher “Good morning! What’s your name?” Student “Good morning Mr. G. my name is …” Teacher “How are you doing today …?” Student “I am feeling awesome! Thank you for asking.” Teacher “What did you have for breakfast this morning?” Student “I had ________ and ________ for breakfast.” |

1. What are your thoughts on the Activity? 2. How did you feel? Nervous? Anxious? Excited? 3. What was your body language saying? 4. Does this exercise encourage you to speak properly? 5. Can you apply this strategy in your class to encourage English in the classroom?

“Telephone” Teaching strategy 2

Increase your focus and attention by actively listening. Listen Listen Listen Increase your focus and attention by actively listening. Repetition Repetition Repetition The more you listen the quicker your listening and oral skills will increase. Pronunciation Better language acquisition from a teacher who contains proper English pronunciation during conversational exercises.

Alright! let’s give it a try! Please stand … 1. Please form one continuous line. 2. Question 1: What did you eat for breakfast this morning? 3. Please whisper the response to the next person without letting others hear!! NO CHEATING !! 4. When the last person is reached; he/she must speak out loud and repeat what they have heard! |

1. Was the message always clear and precise? 2. Was it difficult to understand your partner? 3. Was it hard for you to communicate what you heard? 4. What troubles or problems did you encounter? 5. Were other participants not paying attention? 6. If you had another chance; what would you change?

“At the office” Teaching strategy 3

Confidence and Shyness Pair-work and group work are always worth using as they give the students more opportunity to practice speaking. Confidence and Shyness In the beginners' class; they have the added value of helping to reduce shyness which most beginners feel when speaking a foreign language.

Alright! let’s give it a try! We need 6 brave souls … 6 volunteers please! Make a circle in the center of the room. Please take a slip of paper from the box. Read the slip of paper and don’t let others see. You will have 3 minutes to find your partner and conduct your conversation with that person! Everyone else: sit and watch the story unfold. *Get ready for your turn* |

1. As an observer: What are your first impressions? 2. As a participant: What are your first impressions? 3. Were you able to communicate your thoughts and emotions clearly? 4. What problems did you encounter?

“Riddles & Jokes” Teaching strategy 4

Humour! The best medicine Anxiety, stress, pressure, and shyness, play key roles in restricting a students ability to actively participate and learn in class. Humour is hard to master Jokes are hard to understand at times; It is ones ability to “deliver” the joke in a manner that promotes good communication and focus on the right meanings of words. Riddle me this Riddles play a key role in English comprehension because it challenges the student to put meanings of words together in an abstract manner.

Its easy! let’s have some laughs! Simply pick a piece of paper out of the box You will have a minute to prepare the delivery of your joke. If you don’t understand it? I may help you! When it’s your turn; please stand! “Show time”, give us your best delivery of the joke. Make us laugh  |

1. As an observer: What are your first impressions? 2. Did you find yourself laughing? Or confused? 2. As a participant: What are your first impressions? 3. Were you able to communicate your thoughts and emotions clearly? 4. Did you make your audience laugh? 5. What problems did you encounter? 4. Any questions?

That’s all! I hope you learned something new and that you had fun conversing in a foreign language!
