Why digital know-how is so important Technology is changing both working processes and the nature of work and knowledge practices. Educational and wider working environments The way achievement is demonstrated and recorded Knowledge practices Organisations need both general and specialised digital capabilities Recruit, retain, reward and recognise digital talent The need for digitally capable leadership Digital capability is intrinsic to professional practice, identity and learning Digital wellbeing is a critical issue H Beetham (2015) http://bit.ly/2t1nfxD 09/05/17 #digitalcapability http://ji.sc/building-digicap

Acknowledged challenges “There are challenges in matching the speed of change in the education sector, for example in changing curricula and training, to the speed of demand, and the rapidly changing skill sets needs in the economy and society.” Digital skills for the UK economy, Ecorys UK (January 2016) “Digital technology is reshaping how today’s society thinks, works, learns and develops.” Liz Williams, Review of publicly funded digital qualifications (February 2016) “Gaining cross-disciplinary digital skills is the lifeblood of deeper learning outcomes that lead to fruitful careers.” Digital Literacy: An NMC Horizon Project Strategic Brief (October 2016) “While 81.5% of university students feel that digital skills will be important in their chosen career, only half believe that their courses prepare them well for the digital workplace..” The Student digital experience 2017 tracker: the voice of 22,000 UK learners (June 2017) 09/05/17 #digitalcapability http://ji.sc/building-digicap

Activity 4: Curriculum mapping Identify opportunities for integrating digital capabilities within your course/unit of study. 20 min per cycle/2 cycles of activities The aim of these 4 activities is to identify strategies and practices that can be used at scale across institutions to ensure digital capability development is open to all and not restricted to pockets of innovators. 09/05/17 #digitalcapability http://ji.sc/building-digicap 19/07/2018
