“Las Meninas”, Diego Velassquez, 1656 What is going on in this painting? Velasquez was a Spanish painter that was hired by the Royal family as a “Court Artist”. What is the focal point in this painting?

The Task Before You You will be given a specific work of art to recreate in the style of a specific artist. When considering the style of the artist that you are using, ask yourself “How would this artist paint a version of this particular painting?” Some of you may have an artist that used collage elements, consider ways you could introduce collage elements.

Things to have for your presentation: What is the subject matter of the painting that your were recreating? What was the media that was used in the painting? What was the objective of the painting What is the history/story behind the painting? What are the three painting that you chose to describe by the artist you are mimicking? Title, date, subject, medium What are the techniques used in this painting? Describe using elements and principles of design What are the techniques used in this painting? Describe using elements and principles of design Brief Biography of both artists (please incorporate fun facts, we need to be entertained) You will need your painting and a poster with the picture you are mimicking. On the poster you will also need to display the 3 images spoken about previously. You may choose to do a power point in lieu of a poster.
