THIRD GRADE MATH 1/30/17 Class Our News Plans #coolkids You spoke, your teacher listened! Math homework is essential nightly to keep skills sharp and to assure students are getting the independent practice needed to build confidence and stamina! However, many of you have mentioned that your busy schedules may require you to complete the homework in chunks or to do more on some nights and less on others. With this in mind, you will begin seeing Math homework in a packet form beginning this week. It will come home on MONDAY and be returned on FRIDAY!. Students may complete the pages at their own pace. Please look over their work for neatness and effort and sign! Math: We are learning many strategies for multipliplying 2 digit by 1 digit. Last week we learned how to use an area model and the distributive property. This week we will use three more strategies: partial products, compensation, and the traditional algorithm. Then we will begin problem solving with multiplication. It is a busy time! #coolkids

Dates to remember: STAAR simulations: Math- Feb 21 Reading – Feb 22 As we continue to multiply 2 digit by 1 digit numbers, it is essential that the students practice their multiplication and division facts for speed. Their confidence with these facts is improving daily, but I know there is always room for improvement! Please use the fact wheels or TIC-TAC-TOE methods to practice nightly! Also, check out my website for other ways you can practice. http://www.allenisd.org/Domain/3499 Holly_May@allenisd.org Dates to remember: STAAR simulations: Math- Feb 21 Reading – Feb 22 Vision: “Where EVERYBODY is SOMEBODY”
