Distributive Property

Three friends went to a baseball game Three friends went to a baseball game. Each ticket cost $20 and all three friends bought a baseball hat for $15 each. How can you find the total spent using two different ways? (3x 20) + (3 x 15) 3(20+15) Solve the 2 expressions. What do you notice about the answers?

Distributive Property To multiply a sum by a number, multiply each addend by the number outside the parenthesis 3(20+15) = 3x 20 + 3 x 15 a(b+c) = a x b + a x c

Using the distributive property with perimeter

Using the distributive property with perimeter Reminder – to find the perimeter of a shape you add up all the sides 4 + 4 + 10 + 10 = 28 10 4 4 10

Using the distributive property with perimeter 4 + 4 + 10 + 10 = 28 is also: 2(4+10) = 28 10 4 4 10

Use the distributive property with the following side lengths 2(10-b) + 2(c+7) 20 – 2b + 2c + 14 -2b + 2c + 34 10 - b c + 7 c + 7 10 - b

Find the perimeter Reminder – to find the perimeter of a shape you add up all the sides 4 + 10 + 11 = 25 11 4 10

Find the perimeter Reminder – to find the perimeter of a shape you add up all the sides b + 9 + 11 + b + 2b + 9 = 4b + 29 11 + b b + 9 2b + 9
