Presentation transcript:

Advantage session # 76 Tapping the Hidden Job Market Presenter: Bob Goldstein Career Counselor, Kelley School of Business, IUB.

There are only two ways to find a job. The employer looks for you. OR You look for the employer.

80% ….of all positons are filled without employer advertising!

Why bother about HJM? These positions are filled by—or created for—candidates who come to an employer’s attention through , recommendations, referrals, recruiters, or direct contact with the candidate.

The HJM ….is as close as your telephone your word processor and e-mail account--- as well as your eyes and ears. Your contacts and those you meet through your contacts can help you learn about positions, projects or needs that will not be formally announced.

Employers are…… ….constantly on the lookout for suitable candidates to replace departing, retiring or inefficient workers, to work on new projects, or to add expertise in a particular area.

Cold calls…. are calls you make without a referral or connection. Cold calls may result in an interview----but you will have to be prepared for lots of rejections along the way.

NETWORKING LEADS TO JOBS! Using referrals as an introduction is less stressful and more productive. NETWORKING LEADS TO JOBS!

Tapping into the HJM Now let’s watch one of the best videos on the subject of HJM. Don Asher, the presenter, speaks in a down to earth manner sprinkled with humor. …and who knows? You may learn something!!!

100 LEADS-- ARE YOU CRAZY? ANYONE WANT TO BET ME?

In Conclusion- There is a Job Out There Waiting for You. Now--Get Off Your “Seat” And Find It!! ..AND UCSO WILL BE HERE TO HELP YOU IN ANYWAY WE CAN- GOOD LUCK!
