Description of Lesson Our Country’s Geography Interwrite Board and Clickers 21 Students My colleague and I spent 6 weeks teaching a unit over the geography of the United States. After teaching the unit I used clickers to evaluate the concepts that were taught in order to review for their assessment. Pre-test 9-12-11 Post-test 10-25-11

Technology Used Interwrite Board and Clickers The clickers can be used to get immediate feedback about what the students know. I have currently not used individual feedback, but I have used the feedback for the entire class. Our school only has 2 sets of clickers, so teachers have to share them. I think that it is important for students to get immediate feedback. Using clickers is a great way for this to occur.

Supporting Diverse Learners I incorporate diverse learners by delivering the information in a variety of ways (hands-on, peer groups, individual, whole group) I have not used any adaptive or assistive technologies at this school. However, at my previous school I did use an assisted listening device microphone and speaker.

Managing Technology While teaching the following unit I took my students to the computer lab and had them research specific maps to use during the lessons. I also allowed them to use Google Maps to locate specific areas in the United States. In order to review material from “Our Country’s Geography,” students will use their individual clickers with CPS computer program to answers questions obtaining to the goals and objectives throughout the unit. Questions will be viewed on the classroom Interwrite board.

Was your lesson effective? 17/21 students in my class showed gains after being taught the content. I believe that my students learned the content based on the data that I collected. I also think that based on oral communication that my students learned the information that was being presented. My students always have more motivation when we use technology. The students had some knowledge about the geography of the United States before the unit began. I think having more computers that are readily available would make the effectiveness of any lesson better.

LEGAL & ETHICAL COMPUTER USE I constantly model and teach students about plagiarism and copyright laws. I made sure that I documented any resources that I used that were copyrighted. The test that I came up with was developed by my colleague and myself.

Cooperative Learning This specific lesson does not include cooperative learning. However, throughout the six week unit students worked together to complete projects focusing on different land forms.

Technology as a Productivity Tool In this lesson I used Clickers as a productivity tool. I used the Clickers to evaluate student understanding on the concept being taught. I am able to immediately see how the students do overall in class.

Technology as a Research Tool Technology for Distance Learning Technology as a Research Tool My class can keep up to date on how they are doing with the content based on the outcomes from the Clicker questions. I communicate with parents on a daily basis via email to inform them about what we are doing in class. Parents also have access to my online grade book through Engrade.

Technology Set up The room that I used has a teacher station in the back of the room. It has an Interwrite Board in the front of the room with a projector mounted on the ceiling, which is connected to the teacher station. Our computers are set up on a network. Clickers communicate with desktop. Our technology is maintained by our Computer Teacher and an IT staff member who keeps it up to date and in working condition.

Teaching with Technology Standards My lesson focused on not only the Indiana Academic Standards, but also focused on the NETS With today’s society, using technology benefits students to use it as much as possible.
