Civil War It was the Cavaliers, or Royalists who support King and Church of England Against Parliament’s army of reformers known as “Roundheads” Parliament made Oliver Cromwell the leader of its army, he was a brilliant general and a very religious man. It took five years but in 1647 Charles surrenders, is tried and executed (1649)!
A Nation-State The sentencing of Charles I to be executed for treason is only possible if one assumes that England is a nation-state against which he can commit treason! And not just his kingdom!
