Iridaceae 65-75 genera, ~ 2000 species Monocots Prefer seasonal habitats The rootstock is a rhizome, bulb, or corm 1-3’ tall Found worldwide

Iris versicolor Basal leaves, more than 1 cm wide 2-3 flowers per plant Six-parted flower, three petals and three sepals Flower is perfect, three stamen and a single style branching into three stigma Inferior ovary Stem and roots grow from a rhizome Grows in marshes, swamps, wet meadows, along shorelines, and in forested wetlands.
