from people breaking it! Pray for each other that God will keep your heart safe Do you want to wait? YES NO MAYBE? What will help you wait? How can you look after your mates? What are the advantages to waiting for a boy/girlfriend?: Or are you happy to wait? Will you go round wanting a boy/girlfriend like everyone else? So you are left with some tough choices.
Is there something better? We see images like this all the time. And we feel pressure – peer pressure, media pressure, all types of pressure, pressure!!!! You might sometimes feel the pressure to look like this! You might even feel the pressure (or you might feel it soon) to have a boyfriend or girlfriend Is it a good thing? Is it the right thing? Good questions (I’m glad you asked them!) Write down what reasons you think people have for having a boy/girlfriend?: I don’t know about you, but most people I know that have a boy/girlfriend often end up going from this: to this: Is there anyone like this that you know of? (no names) Is this the only way? Do we need a broken heart? – Yeah, like a hole in the head maybe!! (excluding piercings!) Let’s be real honest – most people “go out together” (go round, date, be special etc) because it makes them feel good! Guys – usually because of our hormones, our egos & it makes us feel important. Girls – because of our feelings and that we love knowing someone cares about us. But when you look at those things – both of these are kinda selfish reasons – it’s all about ME kind of reasons…. Is there something better? We talked about pressure. Here at Uth Group we want to provide a place without some of the pressure that you get elsewhere. We don’t care what you look like – God cares about what type of person you ARE, not what you look like….and that is what we try and do too! We don’t care whether you have a boy/girlfriend or not – in fact, we will even suggest that you wait for that type of thing….. We don’t want you to feel uncomfortable around others that do have a boyfriend/girlfriend – so we have a rule that is really easy to enforce – no touching! So what does the Bible say about having a boy/girlfriend? (I’m glad you asked!) First of all – God was the one that invented boy/girlfriends! When God saw Adam, he said this: “It isn’t good for the man to live alone. I need to make a suitable partner for him.” Genesis 2:18 But it wasn’t boy/girlfriends he invented, it was husbands & wives! And then he gave us this warning: Promise me…not to awaken love until the time is right. Song of Sol 2:7, 3:5, 8:4 – (it is mentioned 3 times – it must be important!) What do you think this verse means? When is “the time right”? So, it’s up to you. You can spend your teenage years ripping out other people’s hearts or breaking your own if you want. That is what everyone expects. That’s what you see on the movies, TV, maybe in real life to people around you. But church is maybe the only place where you get offered another option!
