Presentation transcript:

Homework assignment! What is the purpose of the Board of Review?

Board of Review Purpose? To insure the Scout has completed the requirements for the rank. To see how good an experience the Scout is having in the Unit To encourage the Scout to progress further

What else? Quality control on advancement in the unit Opportunity for the Scout to develop and practice interview skills Opportunity for the Scout to review his accomplishments

Who sits on a Board of Review? For all ranks except Eagle or Eagle palms 3-6 members of the Troop Committee! What about? Scoutmaster? ASM? Units leaders? Parents or Guardians? Siblings?

Who sits on a Board of Review? For Eagle or Eagle Palms 3-6 members from District or Council May include other members of the scouting community Religious leaders School teacher Community leaders Scout may request an individual be present

Mechanics Scout should be in FULL UNIFORM (or jacket and tie) Introduction How long? 15-30 minutes Questions? What every Scout must know Oath, Law, Motto, Slogan and Outdoor code

What it is not! A retest… It is appropriate to ask specific questions related to the rank only to determine that the scout is comfortable with the question. However…It is time consuming and tedious to ask too many specific questions. More important to find out how the scout thinks!

Ending Scout is asked to leave the room AND REMAIN OUTSIDE THE DOOR! Members confer Scout is invited back in and boards decision is announced. Congratulations and end with strong note of encouragement.

What if the Scout does not Pass? Identify where he did a good job. Point out the area(s) where he needs to improve. BE SPECIFIC! What skill, what page in the handbook. Finish on an encouraging note and make a specific date to re-do. Make him a priority.
