WHY ARE THE GREEK GODS IMPORTANT? PA @ 71

Do Now Why does almost every movie about ancient Greece have to do with mythology?

Where did the gods come from? No one person invented Greek mythology. The earliest written sources of Greek mythology date to just after the Dark Age, about 800 BCE. Archaeological evidence from Mycenae and Crete suggest an even earlier origin.

What are our best sources of Greek Mythology? Poems by Homer (Iliad, Odyssey) and Hesiod (Theogeny, Works and Days) give the fullest account of Greek mythology. Later writers would add and adapt to the earlier poems, creating our modern mythology.
