A Transformational Leader Amanda Kleske March 6, 2016
Walt Disney
Walt Disney was considered a transformational leader due to his natural ability to cater to the 4I’s:
Idealized Influence Walt Disney was an inspiring role model who always walked the talked Communicating his vision effectively and passionately was one of his greatest leadership aspects Always showed his care and concern for family and employees He told stories rather than presented strategies; he invested a significant amount of time personally sharing his vision with his team “When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable.”
Inspirational Motivation Effectively communicated ideas to subordinates and rallied great team spirit Always looked toward the future and never lost sight of the big picture Walt acted as a coach and often a mentor to his followers Emphasized that failures and negitivity are inevitable; whats important is to keep trying “You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality.”
Individualized Consideration Constantly encouraged creativity and innovation Culture at EVERY Disney workplace allows for crazy ideas Asked for feedback from everyone Empower your team to achieve creative and engaged employees “Of all the things I’ve done, the most vital is coordinating those who work with me and aiming their efforts at a certain goal.”
Intellectual Stimulation Walt Disney was a Dreamer Loved to try new things Never stopped innovation Always told his employees that a plan is good, but action is the only way to accomplish your goals “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.”
