Classroom Procedures for Ms. Bishop Room 140
Welcome to class I am here to teach; you are here to learn. I will do my job; you will do yours, and we will together use this year wisely and beneficially. Positive attitude is the key of success. Let’s keep it all the time.
Why do we have procedures? A procedure is the way that we do things. To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example: To open your locker, you have to select your combination as directed by the lock manufacturer. To place a call on your phone, you need to enter the number in the right order. So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures.
ENTRANCE Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class. Enter the classroom quietly. Go directly to your assigned seat. Get ready for your work.
RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS □ Record class work and homework in your agenda. Remember you may have to add unfinished class work to the homework section of your planner. □ Start the entry task that will be written on the board. □ It is to be a zero noise level during entry task time. Do the entry task in your journal or on the handout, if provided. When you finish, READ a book.
During Instruction Listen to the teacher with full attention. No pencil sharpening, talking, or whispering. Ask permission to speak by raising your hand. Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions which are not related to the subject can be asked after instruction. After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didn’t understand.
Pencils Pencils Sharpening pencils during class time can be very distracting and frustrating for other students in the class. There will be two cans at the front of the classroom. One for sharpened (new) pencils and one for (used) pencils that need to be sharpened. If you find you need a (new) sharpened pencil simply place your dull pencil in the (used) can and get a sharpened one out of the (new) can. You may also sharpen your pencils before class begins. Do not sharpen colored pencils in the electric sharpener.
RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS Bathroom Library Nurse RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS Please do not ask to leave the classroom during the first 10 minutes of class, the last 10 minutes of class or during direct instruction. Tell me where you need to go and ask for permission to leave. You must have a pass. If you are given permission to leave the room write down your destination and I will sign your pass. Use the girls/boys bathroom pass when going to the restroom. When you return, hang the pass on the door.
While you are working Pencils Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand them. If you didn’t understand, ask help from other students sitting around you. If they also don’t understand, ask to the teacher to explain it. If you are asked to help, be polite and kind and offer your best. Talking to each other should be no louder than a one. Respect each other and be friendly. Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time.

Keeping your journals You should have a composition book for EACH subject (4 or 5 in total). Use pen or pencil to write in your journal. The first page should be the title page. Write your full name, class and period on it. Number the pages in the right bottom corner. Always write the title with capital letters. Each day, put the date first. Keep your journals clean and organized. Your journals will be collected and checked from time to time. Turn them in on time when you are asked. Take good care of your journals. Do not lose them.
If the teacher asks for your attention Pencils Stop whatever you are doing at that moment. Face the teacher and wait silently (this is a zero). Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has asked for your attention. No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher.
RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS After you are done RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. If the assignment is to be turned in, do so. Read your book, magazine, etc. or finish up homework from another class.
Dismissal Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can. Wait for Mrs. Webb to dismiss you. The ring of the bell does not dismiss you. After you get permission to leave, push in your chair and leave quietly. If it is the last period of the day, stack the chairs by the back wall. Clean you work area and take all garbage to the trash can. Wait for Ms. Bishop to dismiss you. The ring of the bell does not dismiss you. After you get permission to leave, push in your chair and leave quietly. If it is the last period of the day, stack the chairs by the back wall. Thank you
Homework procedures Homework that is assigned is due the next day unless I give you an alternative due date. Late homework is worth ½ credit.
When you are tardy Pencils You will not be excused from any work you missed. Get the assignment from a classmate and do it at home. If you have an unexcused tardy, I will deduct 1 pt from Class Dojo for not meeting expectations. (not in your seat when bell rings)
When you are absent Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can. Wait for Mrs. Webb to dismiss you. The ring of the bell does not dismiss you. After you get permission to leave, push in your chair and leave quietly. If it is the last period of the day, stack the chairs by the back wall. Get the assignments from your classmates or from the class assigned whiteboard. All handouts and worksheets are in the blue basket at the back of the room. Do the work at home. If you missed a test because of your excused absence, inform Ms. Bishop and arrange a time to make up the test after school. You will not be able to make up any work if you have an unexcused absence. You will get a “0” for those assignments.
Absent student procedure Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can. Wait for Mrs. Webb to dismiss you. The ring of the bell does not dismiss you. After you get permission to leave, push in your chair and leave quietly. If it is the last period of the day, stack the chairs by the back wall. It is always stressful when you are absent and have to come back and find and make up the missing assignments. This is a good time for classmates to help out. When a student is absent, the student assigned to “class assignments” for the week is responsible for collecting any handouts, stapling them together, writing the absent student’s name at the top and placing on the class whiteboard.
