Fifth Page On the bottom right hand corner, number the page 3. Label the top of this page “Science.” We’ll come back here later too!

Other pages Number each page of the notebook. Odds on the right, evens on the left. Numbers always go on the outside corners at the bottom.

Inside Back Cover Place five drops of glue on the back (flat side without the flap) of the envelope. Glue the envelope to the back cover so you will be able to use it to place things into it.

Back Cover Leave blank …………….. for now!

Getting Started!! Turn back to page 1, the table of contents page. Draw a line down the center of the paper, starting two lines below the heading. Label the left column “Left Side Pages.” Label the right hand column “Right Side Pages.” Do the same for page 2.

INPUT The right side pages, or odd numbered pages, are for INPUT Input is information that the teacher gives you (ex. notes, vocab, etc.) The right is right!

OUTPUT The left side pages, or even numbered pages, are for your OUTPUT Your interpretation of the notes, drawings, haikus, experiments, etc. At least FOUR colors must be used on EVERY left hand page! (Black and white do NOT count!)

Tying up loose ends Turn back to page i. This is the “All About Me” page, label it at the top of the page. You must have at least THREE things that are all about you Pictures of family, your favorite color, favorite animal, favorite food, place you would like to travel to, etc. Use at least FOUR different colors!

Page 3 - Science Turn back to page 3. On this page put anything that makes you think of SCIENCE. How many colors will you use? What two colors do not count?

Finishing Classwork What we do not finish today, we will finish during the week. What do we need to finish? “All About Me” pg. i “Science” pg. 3 Numbering the bottom corner of the pages

Updating the ToC Turn to page 1, the Table of Contents. Under the left side column write the page number and heading for the left side pages. Under the right side column write the page number and heading for the right side pages. Copy the example at the front.

Using the notebook! Using the classroom rules, let’s use the notebook!

Classroom Rules Turn to pages 4 and 5 in your IAN. Glue the classroom rules on page 5 . (cut the handout to fit your page, use only 5 dots of glue!)

Page 4 Once you have the rules glued in, label the top of page 4 “Classroom rules.” Choose THREE rules from page 5. We will make foldables for each of the rules you selected.

Fabulous Foldables Rule 1 – Use the small foldable and glue it onto the left page. Draw a picture of someone NOT following the rule on the front. On the inside, write WHY what they are doing is wrong, and what they SHOULD be doing.

Rule 2 Glue the second foldable onto your left page. On the front of the foldable, draw a picture of a this rule being followed. Inside the foldable draw a reward from the list on the right page that you think would be a good one.

Rule 3 Glue the large foldable onto the left page. On the front of the foldable draw one, two, three, and four check marks on each of the tabs. Under each tab, write what each check mark means (use the right hand page for the information).

ToC Update your table of contents Left side page column – p. 4, Classroom Rules Right side page column – p. 5, Classroom Rules
