Energy Chapter 5 Test Review As the pendulum swings downward, PE is converted into KE. As the pendulum swings back up, KE is converted into PE. Hairdryer converts electrical energy into thermal energy. Light bulb converts electrical energy into light energy and thermal energy. During Photosynthesis, light energy is converted into chemical energy. When we eat, chemical energy is converted into KE and PE and then into thermal energy. As the roller coaster moves downward, PE is converted into KE. As the roller coaster moves back up, KE is converted into PE. When you beat a drum, the vibrations from the drum hit air particles and those air particles vibrate into a wave of energy around the source of the sound. KE is energy in motion, while PE is stored energy or energy of position or shape.

Energy Chapter 5 Test Review 7. At her highest point in her jump. 8. Describe the energy of the pendulum. 9. Describe what happens to the PE and KE as the roller coaster rolls down the track. 1. _____________________________ 2. _____________________________ 3. _____________________________ PE, GPE, ME PE, GPE, KE, ME KE, ME Point A _____________________________ Point B _____________________________ Point C _____________________________ PE,GPE at maximum A B PE KE C KE at maximum

Energy Chapter 5 Test Review 10. Describe why mechanical energy stays the same throughout points A,B and C. As the roller coaster rolls down the track, PE decreases as KE increases at the same rate so ME stays constant (does not change) ME is the sum of KE and PE.
