Early Greeks – Map Activity Use one sentence to describe the geography of Greece. Greece is a mountainous fractured peninsula with many islands. Where are the Ionian Sea, Aegean Sea, and Mediterranean Sea located in relationship to Greece? The Ionian Sea is to the west of Greece, the Aegean Sea is to the east, and the Mediterranean Sea is to the south.

Early Greeks – Map Activity Look at the physical features of Greece and the surrounding area and hypothesize what economic activities you believe ancient Greeks had? Ancient Greeks were fishers, sailors, traders, and farmers. Why do you believe that the ancient Greeks were able to grow wheat, barley, olives, and grapes in Greece’s rocky soil? The peninsula of Greece has a favorable climate.

The Minoan Civilization Refer to pages 239-241 of your textbook to answer the handout questions on Minoan civilization. Pick one person in your team to read the passage on the Minoans. Everyone else will listen to the reading and when you hear the answer to a question, stop the reading and make sure everyone in your group writes it down.

Minoan Civilization What was the main economic activity of the Minoans? They traveled by ship to trade with other countries. What do historians believe happened to the Minoan civilization? Either it was destroyed by an earthquake and the resulting tsunami or the Mycenaean attacked and destroyed it.
