Aim: How can we support a claim using information from a nonfiction text? Do Now: Describe the different types of transportation in your home country. Which method do you prefer the most? Why Train system in New York City and cars driving on the road

Focus for Today In this lesson, you will cite evidence to support your claim/position on a factor that is changing India. Citing evidence is important because it allows a writer to convince a reader of the validity of their argument.

Guided Practice Using the information from the do now and the article below we will fill in the blanks together.

Check for Understanding- Answer true or false In order to cite evidence, we must use a quote. A claim/position is a fact. You should always include a quote to support your claim.

Independent work You will read the article, Cars are Changing India. You will take a position on the following question: Should all families in India have cars? Fill in the graphic organizer after you read. You need to have two paragraph. One piece of evidence in each.
