700 MHz Clearing Status President Bush signed the date certain DTV transition legislation on Feb 8, 2006; Part of S.1932, Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 Law provides for: Firm TV clearing date of 02/17/09 Up to $1B for interoperable communications equipment for public safety

TV Blocking Public Safety Spectrum 54% Pop’l Totally Blocked Add’l 16% Pop’l Half Blocked

TV Protection Must protect incumbent full power TV stations as outlined in 90.545 until end of TV transition period Rule of thumb separation of land mobile (LMR) and broadcast TV: Co-channel (63/64) = 100 miles Adjacent channel (62/63/64/65) = 60-80 miles Co-channel (68/69) = 100 miles Adjacent channel (67/68/69) = 80 miles
