Title - Should Be at Least 60+ Point and Centered Tips -Title should be short and quickly identify the project. List all authors or individuals that participated in the project in a meaningful way. Include the authors’ or contributors’ related affiliations and institutions. Abstract Results Conclusions Purpose - The findings of the project or final outcome of a project are presented. The use of graphics and charts is helpful. Purpose - List 3-4 statements, recommendations, future actions, etc. . The statements should be supported by information in the Results section. Purpose – This provides a brief synopsis of the project. This should be concise and easily understood by the reviewers and readers. Tips - Keep text lines shorter than 12 words. It is difficult for the eye to scan wide areas of text. Tips - Tips - Moderation of graphics or colored text is key, unlike the picture of the peacock! Images should be between 100 and 150 dots per inch resolution at final size. Web images are usually around 75 dots per inch. NOTE: Enlarging will make them fuzzy in final print NOTE: A better option is to put captions to the right of, below or above graphic Inserting clipart (Insert/Picture) Introduction Consider using Justified Text when caption is to the left of a graphic element Purpose - This usually consists of 3-4 bullets that outline the project and rationale for it. A statement of goals of the project, research question, or clinical issue may be included in this section. Tips - Fonts To use for various sections : Typefaces – Times, Helvetica, Arial or Verdana Body – 24-28 point / Headers – 36-48 point Sub Headers - 32-36 point Left justified text creates a ragged edge that can form an unattractive white space next to a graphic element References You can either create a graph within this document (Insert/Graph) or copy and paste an existing graph. Purpose - This section lists references, as appropriate. Methodology Limitations Examples - Mtei L, Matee M, Herfort O, et al. High rates of clinical and subclinical tuberculosis among ambulatory HIV-positive subjects in Tanzania. Clin Infect Dis 2005;40:1500-7. Vuola JM, Ristola MA, cole B, Tvaroha S, Rönkkö T, von Reyn CF. Immunogenicity of an inactivated mycobacterial vaccine for the prevention of HIV-associated tuberculosis: a randomized, controlled trial AIDS 2003; 17: 2351-2355. Purpose – This section outlines the methods that were used in the project. It may include the study design, interventions used, statistical conducted, etc. Tips - You can either create a table within this document (Go to Insert/Table) or copy and paste an existing graph. If you copy and paste, in all likelihood you will need to tinker with resizing. Purpose - List any limitations of the project or study. Overall Tips For ALL Sections – examine poster for: Clarity in stating the problem or project Identification of important issues or variables Appropriateness in methodology Recognition of the limitations of the data or the project The degree to which the data supports the conclusions Effective use of tables, figures, graphs or charts to present the project or data Accuracy of spelling and grammar Neatness and organization of the poster A sequential flow of information An uncluttered layout Table I. Results of Wave I Survey, Nashua NH, 10/2006 Time Period Number of Respondents First Quarter Female (n = 250) Male (n = 175) Second Quarter Female (n = 150) Male (n = 225) Third Quarter Female (n = 301) Male (n = 239) Acknowledgments Purpose - This section recognizes those individuals that were instrumental in the project or the preparation of the poster, and any funding source. Tips – Don’t forget to mention your mentors, faculty advisors, or other helpful sources.
