Hypocrisy Abounds

Who’s a Hypocrite? Matthew 23:23-24 (NIV) 23 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. 24 You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.

Consider … Note the minutia the religious leaders focused on. Do the right thing Do NOT do the wrong thing Easy for us to take similar attitudes “Don’t smoke, drink or chew … or go with girls/boys who do”

Consider … Jesus says, more important is … Justice Mercy Faithfulness God wants a personal relationship with believers More than a bunch of “do-gooders”

Consider … God wants (and deserves) Worship Trust Loving submission Obedience will be the result of our salvation Not the other way around
