Northwestern Coniferous Forest by Evelyn Cathryn Jasmine

distribution The Northwestern Coniferous Forest is located in the Pacific northwest of America. It ranges from the coast of northern California to the southern coast of Alaska.

Abiotic Factors Mild temperatures; The climate is harshly cold in the winter and is warm in the summer; Although it's warm in the summer it's still cool all year round; a rainforest; relatively cool climates. Abundant precipitation in fall, winter, and spring ; cool dry summers.

Abiotic Factors Heat regulation —Because of the dark coloration of the coniferous trees, the small amounts of sunlight are easily absorbed and that causes easy heat regulation. Biomes acidic soils —this is formed by the rainfall dissolving sediments below the soil, this causes the acidity of the soil.

Biotic Factors This biome is less diverse than a tropical rain forest. Main feature: This biome is less diverse than a tropical rain forest.

Biotic Factors Plant life: —plants bare cones and evergreen leaves; —Trees here are among the world’s tallest; —Ample water and nutrients support lush, dense plant growth. —The trees that live in the northwestern coniferous forest include: redwoods, Big leaf Maple, the Red Alder the Black Cottonwood….. —Other plant life includes ferns, mushrooms, toadstools, and moss.(Moss often covers tree trunks and the forest floor.)

Threats Wildfires are a problem in coniferous forests.

Threats Endangered Plants in Coniferous Forests Coniferous forests have many endangered plants. Some of the plants are being protected, but many have lost the fight due to pollution, logging and cultivation of the land. Florida Torreya
