The Effects of Light and Music on Growth Performance and Survival Rate of Goldfish Author: Imanpoor M. R; Enayat Gholampour T*; Zolfaghari M. By: Carson Walrod

Purpose To see if the goldfish growth performance and survival rate were affected by light color and music. Purpose To see if the goldfish growth performance and survival rate were affected by light color and music.

Reason for Selection Because goldfish are fun!

Null and Alternative Hypothesis Null: That music and light color have no effect on goldfish growth performance and survival rate. Alternative: Music and lighting have measurable effects on goldfish’s growth and lifespans.

Definitions Growth performance- how well the fish are growing Survival rate- how well the goldfish live in the specific conditions Acclimated- become accustomed to a new climate or to new conditions Aeration- become accustomed to a new climate or to new conditions Biometric- relating to or involving the application of statistical analysis to biological data Anesthetized- administer an anesthetic to (a person or animal), especially so as to induce a loss of consciousness Mortality- death, especially on a large scale

How the Study was Conducted Goldfish were placed in holding tanks for 2 weeks Goldfish were transferred to other tanks Goldfish were exposed to treatments Fed twice daily Weighed every two weeks Music was on a timer

Results Significantly affected by light Not significantly affected by music Survival and food conversion rates not significantly affected
