Levels of unemployment in Tipton are higher than the local, regional and national averages, particularly in Princes End and Tipton Green. The Census 2011 showed that Tipton town has the second highest proportion of residents with no qualifications (after Wednesbury) and the lowest proportion of residents with qualifications at degree level or above. Tipton and West Bromwich present the higher number of referrals for adults, followed by Smethwick. In Princes End, 46% of the violent offences with injury have a DV marker attached. Sandwell Council’s Access Centre receives all notifications of domestic abuse where children are involved. Although the number of notifications decreased between 2011 and 2012, Tipton is still the second town with the most notifications after Smethwick. Princes End is the ward with the highest number of notifications in the borough. Although alcohol has been identified as one major factor in DV incidents, the number of referrals to DECCA from Tipton is relatively low compared with other towns.
