Hernando De Soto By Trent

De Soto’s childhood Hernando was born in 1524 He was born in Spain De Soto was born into a poor family.

De Soto’s first voyage At the age of 14 Hernando De Soto went on his first voyage with Coronado. He went to Peru to conquer the Incan Indians. De Soto was successful and got many riches. He was a wealthy man when he went back to Spain.

De Soto returns to Spain When De Soto got back to Spain he was a rich man He got marred to a woman named Isabelle. He stayed for 4 years then he wanted to take a voyage to America / the new world

Voyage to America 1538-1542 De Soto set off with 700 men and ten ships. De Soto went from Spain to Cuba then to Florida. De Soto set up his first camp at Tampa Bay.

De Soto’s Route

De Soto in the new land He and his group explored Florida, and much of the East Coast. De Soto would capture the Native American chief to confuse the tribes. He then would take over and make them slaves.

De Soto’s death De Soto discovered the Mississippi River in 1541. He got sick with a fever and then died in 1542. His men buried him in the Mississippi River.

FUN FACTS De Soto has a car company named after him. He found no gold in the new country. His troops buried him in the Mississippi River. He helped take over the Incan Empire. He brought pigs to America.
