Multi-agency mental health simulation training Mary Jane Tacchi Mark Tunney Terry Nelson

Before we start…. Who works in the crisis pathway? Experts by experience? What professions?

What are the issues in the pathway? How could training help? In your area of expertise what do others need to know about your role that would improve the pathway?

What is Respond? Unique simulation training for professionals in mental health crisis care Key step towards making Crisis Care Concordat vision a reality Safe learning environment

What is Respond? Handling real-life situations with professionals from other key agencies Expert advice from each key discipline – including experts by experience Equips staff to respond quickly and appropriately together

Experts by experience Role in development Role in delivery Outcomes for participants

The crisis care challenge Concordat – shared commitment to improve system Need to support each other better More clarity on roles and responsibilities to provide joined-up response Communication difficulties Partnership working, not working in isolation Not practical for each agency to train its staff separately

Learn together, respond together Models the collaborative behaviour essential to an effective crisis response Brings real and stressful situations to life e.g. male in crisis on a river bridge scenario Rounded experience - brings together ALL relevant agencies Strengthens partnership working Key role of experts by experience

Benefits of Respond Streamlined, more efficient crisis care Better patient experience - right care, right place, right time Better understanding and confidence in each other’s roles Improved knowledge of mental health and legislation Can be delivered in simulation suites or classroom
