MECHANICAL DRAWING WORKING DRAWINGS

WORKING DRAWINGS Drawing that supplies information and instructions for the manufacture or construction of machines or structures. Working drawing is classified to: Detailed drawing: Provide information to manufacture/construction of the parts. Assembly drawing: Supply information for the assembly of these parts. Working drawing steps: First and assembly drawing is drawn. From the assembly drawing detailed drawing is made, and a number is given for each part. Numbers also are given to each part in the assembly drawing according to the number in the detailed drawing. (In CAD colors is preferred).

WORKING DRAWINGS Detailed drawing: Provide information/description to manufacture/construction of the parts: Shape description: Selection and number of views to describe the shape of the part. Which could be: orthogonal, sectional, auxiliary, or enlarged detailed views. Specifications: General notes, material, heat treatment, surface finish, and tolerances. Size description: Dimensions and tolerances.

WORKING DRAWINGS Assembly drawing: Machines are composed of several parts. A drawing showing a machine in its complete state is called assembly drawing. Purpose of assembly drawing: - Show the product in its complete shape. - Indicate the relation of various parts, designate these parts by part no. - Overall dimensions.

WORKING DRAWINGS Assembly drawing: Views: No need for complete set of orthogonal views. Only views necessary to show how parts fits together and the functionality of the entire machine. Hidden lines: No need. Hidden lines in assembly drawing is difficult to read (too many lines). Use instead sectional views. Dimensions: No dimensions except: the overall dimensions, the distance between parts at the time of assembly, the maximum opening (vise), the maximum height (jack), … etc. Sections : Very useful of any kind (broken-out, half, full, removed …).

12 WORKING DRAWINGS Identification (numbering): Parts lists (BOM): Use standard numbering Leader lines at an angle, not horizontal or vertical. Adjacent leaders are parallel or nearly so. No leader crossings. Parts lists (BOM): Bill Of Material, is a list showing all components one assembly drawings. Location of BOM: on top of the title box or on the upper right corner. 12 0.19 (5mm) 0.5 (12mm) 0.12 (3mm) For smaller drawings 0.44 (11 mm) For smaller drawings 10 50 30 10 NO.
