ASPnet UNESCO National outlook Linköping University is the only Swedish university which takes part in ASPnet We have used Aspnet (Unesco) as a source for relevant material such as literature, videos, contacts etc There are different projects where schools take part, such as The Baltic Sea project, World Heritage Education and This is our time. Themes for starting a new project could and should be The role of UN in the world Democracy, Human rights and Tolerance Intercultural Learning Environment and Sustainable Education It´s not possible to get any funding for starting an ASPnet project. Of course there all the other progarmmes lika Erasmus Mundu, Sokrates etc.

The Global and Exploring Teacher International and Swedish students study together at full or half speed (15 or 30 Ects) during spring semester 2012 New internet-based course. Apply on 15th of October at the latest www.studera.nu Our course The Global and exploring Teacher is a course about Intercultural Learning and about Education for Sustainable development. It is run on the digital platform It´s Learning and the participants this year come from China, Singapore, Pakistan, Greece, Holland, Sweden and the US.

The Global and Exploring Teacher Level G/Undergraduate 15/30 ECTS LEARNING OUTCOMES On completion of the course students should be able to identify and analyze UNESCO’s four pillars of education; learning to know, learning to do, learning to be and learning to live together. describe and discuss the cultural influences on our cognition and identity compare and contrast different educational systems in at least two countries analyse, reflect upon and display an understanding of different perspectives on sustainable development and the role of education in a future sustainable local and global society

The Global and Exploring Teacher CONTENT The UNESCO-inspired, distance course is designed for teacher training students or teachers working in schools. Different educational systems are studied. The importance of education in a world of inequalities, clashing cultures, rapid transformation and globalization is highlighted and analysed. Organizing learning processes and teaching will be carried out through teaching practice in the student’s own home countries. Documentation from the teaching practice is subject for discussion and evaluation. The course is built on 4 modules; 1)Introduction course, 2)Learning to know, Learning to do, 3)Learning to live together, Learning to be and 4) a final supervised practical Fieldwork.

The Global and Exploring Teacher TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS The course is a distance learning course where students interact with teaching staff and fellow students with the aid of the platform It’s Learning. The language of instruction is English. The methods of instruction include web-based lectures, teacher and student-led seminars and discussions in the virtual learning environment as well as individual comments on written assignments. Students are expected to prepare for lectures and seminars by reading recommended texts and taking part in all group work, discussions and leading seminars. Students are encouraged to use real-life cases from their local environment in the discussions with their peer students in order to challenge each others perspectives.

Project-written assignment + seminar + Field study. 10/5 ECTs Study how one of UNESCOs 4 pillars is visible in a school context Understand how the schools are working in this area and discuss how it can be improved Reflect upon the role of education for a future sustainable local and global society 4) To study in depth how one of the UNESCOs four pillars; Learning to know, learning to do, learning live together and learning to be is visible in a school context Get a deeper understanding how the schools are working within this school area To exemplify and discuss how this particular chosen are can be improved To refelct upon the role of Education for a future sustainable local and global society. Comments from a student …educational intiatives, like the Global and Exploring Teacher at Linköping University (Sweden) are bound to florish and multiply, thus further encourage global communication and learning opportunities with ESD as a common theme. Due to technological advances and mankind´s ingenuity, there will increasingly be more international learning initiatives promoting cross-cultural studies and SD: Global citizenship is bound to proliferate and as a result ESD will continue to evolve.
