Batman 1939 May In early 1938, the success of Superman in Action Comics prompted editors at the comic book division of National Publications to request more superheroes for its titles. In response, Bob Kane created “the Bat-Man.”

As a boy, Bruce Wayne is horrified and traumatized to see his parents, the physician Dr. Thomas Wayne and his wife Martha, being murdered by a mugger in front of his very eyes. This drive him to fight crime in Gotham City as Batman.
