The Battle of Dunbar After Berwick Edward’s army advanced towards Dunbar castle Dunbar Berwick

Countess of Dunbar handed over Dunbar castle to the Scots Her husband was a supporter of Edward 23 April English cavalry,led by Edward’s senior commander John de Warrene, Earl of Surrey was sent to besiege the castle

After 4 days the Scots led by the Earl of Buchan attacked the English The castle garrison cheered and raised banners taunting English Tailed dogs we will cut your tails off

Was this a wise decision? A number Scots nobles supported Edward Some nobles stayed at home so they didn’t have to take sides The Scots had a smaller army, less equipment and less experience

The Battle Warrene and his knights rode down the valley and out of sight The Scots thought the English were fleeing and broke ranks to pursue them The English then attacked The Outcome Many Scots were attacked or captured Most nobles were captured
