A New Direction for Data in Virginia: The VDH Data Portal Introduction Today I’m going to talk about the VDH data portal, which was launched last November. This is a new direction for data in Virginia in terms of disseminating public health information and data in one central repository using dynamic visualizations and operability with the data. I’ll also highlight our future plans for the cancer page and provide another cancer data visualization resource

Data Portal Timeline Get a sense of how long it took to publish first pitot project (8 topic areas and multiple dashboards for each) Create realistic expectations Project tasked with Portal for the LHD to obtain data to create their CHA and track their CHIP- main audience Community Health Assessments and Community Health Improvement Plans Aim improve health of communities Accreditation - First round of training approx. 25 people AUG – first project put on server -server configuration -figure out data structure Working on defining vision and end user Wanted the portal to be everything for everyone Additional training and reorganization between Aug ‘15 and March ’16 MARCH - Project designated a leader. Oversee the project Tableau consultant who is contracted to just work on dashboards People interested in Tableau and formed a working group Tableau public to embed in website. people in over 6/7 offices Initial launch date in Sept
