Handover Protocol Residential Oncall Non Residential Oncall Incoming Oncall Doctor arrives for shift The times of your oncall shift will reflect a 30 min cross over period on the rota which is when handover should take place. Non Residential Oncall Incoming Oncall Doctor starts shift from home. The times of your oncall shift will reflect a 30 min cross over period on the rota which is when handover should take place. Face to Face Handover You must have a face to face handover with your colleague. Do not leave your shift until this has taken place. Telephone Handover Incoming Doctor Trainees should make contact over the phone with the incoming doctor and hand over any events. Contact can be made through switchboard Bleep/Mobile Phone Handover Please hand over your bleep / duty Mobile / alarm during handover directly to the incoming doctor. (Do not leave it with another member of staff) Telephone Handover Consultant The junior doctor oncall is responsible for reporting to the Consultant by telephone at the beginning and at the end of the shift. Written - Handover Book All trainees should record handover in the handover book provided so that there is something tangible in evidence if ever there is a question about what was handed over and what was not Written - Handover Book The first thing the trainee should do on return to work is to record handover in the handover book provided so that there is something tangible in evidence if ever there is a question about what was handed over and what was not Telephone Handover Consultant The junior doctor oncall is responsible for reporting to the Consultant by telephone at the beginning and at the end of the shift as required.
