Objectives Understand what is meant by control technology. Know where control is used in society. Be able to write a sequence of instructions

Where is control used around us? At home Washing machines Microwave cookers Dishwashers Electric kettles Fridges Video recorders Remote control television Central heating systems Burglar Alarm system External Security lights Electronic Toys Games Smart Meters At work Air conditioning systems Lifts Automatic doors Factory robots Outside the home Traffic light systems Car park barriers Cars – engine management systems Lifts Rides at theme parks Computer controlled lighting systems at discos and concerts Remote controlled car

Task 1 Student volunteer 1 Direct from Point A to Point B Available Commands: Fx - Move Forward Bx – Move Backward L – Turn Left 90º R – Turn Right 90º

Task 2 Complete Exam Question (Paper) Further work: WJEC ICT  Unit 1  Applications  Data Logging  Control Into Control Gap Fill Control Word search

Control and Animation Scratch is an example of sequencing instructions. It allows tasks to be carried out based on logical instructions (control language) by the user. Let’s have a look and then you can have a wee play! You may be asked to use such a program in your Controlled Assessment.

Objectives Review Understand what is meant by control technology. Know where control is used in society. Be able to write a sequence of instructions

Plenary What is meant by the term control technology? What do you think the advantages and disadvantages of control are? Where is control used in society? Can you suggest 5 places? The Scratch challenge. I will display scratch on the board. A volunteer has 30 seconds to write a script that: Makes scratch the cat move forward 20, say “hello”, change colour and make a noise.
