Purpose and benefits to students Application of knowledge and skills learned in the classroom and laboratory setting Permission of students to develop the confidence and self-assurance helpful in obtaining employment upon completion of educational experience

Purpose and benefits to students The experience provided during the internship better prepares the student for the college courses remaining in the student's program of study by giving relevancy and meaning to the knowledge and skills taught in the classroom.

How to register The 3RD year FEA summer intern must register for the course (500 Approved Experience) The summer intern must register with FEA Career Development Center whether internship is through the Center or through Self To register link to: http://webfea.fea.aub.edu.lb/career/ Register as 3rd year (intern)

Applying through the FEA Career Develo2ment Center Process Select whether internship is through FEA Career Center or through Self Fill the internship application on line Check the offers as they become available List is updated REGULARLY Mark company/university of interest Dead line for applying will be communicated to you. Keep checking your emails for information Final commitment is OFFICIAL Failure to abide by agreement will result in failing the course

Offers are received from all over the world IAESTE Program (International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience) Offers are received from all over the world Acceptances are basically by rank Students interested in this program cannot apply to other companies and universities. Commitment is essential Students have to follow up on their applications on a regular basis

Behavior at work Maintain a highly professional attitude Maintain punctuality according to work schedule Maintain good relations with your supervisors as well as subordinates Always act responsibly Always remember that you are representing AUB and FEA Take notes, keep a log to write what you have done at the end of each day

Preparing for your Internship Start writing your CV and a potential cover letter ASAP; the more you revise them the better they will be Ask for help during the process The career Center CV and CL workshops at AUB People you know (managers, human resources… )

reminders If you already want to apply to a specific company or university, discuss with the Career Center even if their offer is not posted yet. If your internship MAY be provided by other than the Career Center, discuss with them and begin the paper work. Some companies / universities may take long to give their decision. Discuss with the Career Center in these cases.

reminders Do not miss the deadlines When you’re interested in an offer, research the company / university and deeply research the subject Sometimes the internship subject is unclear or lacks details and explanations. In these cases, ALWAYS ASK the Career Center

WHAT DO THEY CARE FOR Cover letter, CV Grades Projects achieved Relevant courses, performance in these courses Teamwork experience Extra – curricular activities Participation in relevant conferences / workshops Most important: INTERVIEW (technical knowledge, personality, motivation), and COVER LETTER (sometimes replaces the interview)

What should you know Where you’ll be working In an office, on the site, all day on the PC… What is your part of the project Extent, in the beginning or at the end, will you see the results, experiment on what is already built or build yourself…

Questions The FEA Career Development Center is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to answer any questions that you might have and assist you in the process. The FEA Career Development Center is located in the Old cafeteria – Bechtel See you there!
