What are polygons?? 1. They have straight sides. 2. They are 2 dimensional (not 3-D). 3. The sides all connect together to surround a space.

These are not polygons. Can you see why? This is actually 2 polygons that happen to touch. This isn’t a single polygon. Some lines are curved. Some sides don’t connect properly.

This one is actually two polygons! Which one is not a polygon? This one is actually two polygons!

Types of Polygons… Triangles Quadrilaterals

Pentagons Heptagons Hexagons

Octagons Decagons Nonagons

What types of polygons are these? 5 sides? 10 sides? 7 sides? Heptagon! Decagon! Pentagon! Count the sides and find out!

Now try the… Name each example Make each example If you have time, try to make these types of polygons in different ways!

Some rules before you get started: Do you remember why?

Now get started!! All polygons… 1. Must have straight sides. 2. The sides all connect together to surround a space. Now get started!!
