History of the Boys and Girls Club Founded in 1860 in Hartford, Connecticut Designed to be a positive alternative for boys roaming the streets Originally called the Boys Club, it became a nationwide movement with member organizations across the country in the early 1900’s The Boys Club received a U.S. Congressional Charter in 1910 In 1990, the Club officially changed its name to Boys & Girls Club of America to include girls as part of the cause.

Current Reach Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) has over 1,100 local affiliates BGCA operates over 4,000 clubs locations Employs over 50,000 full and part time employees Sponsors 200,000 board and program volunteers Effects approximately 4 million children and teens annually

Boys and Girls Club of Binghamton The Boys Club was founded in 1904 and merged with the Girls Club in 1974 – the first in the nation to do so. The Club serves over 2,500 people between the ages of 5 – 18 annually. Providing support to youth in various areas through programs such as -Power Hour -Gym -Computers   -Girl Scouts -Homework Room   -Meal Program -Art Room  -Youth of the Month These Club programs are designed to help young people achieve academic success and healthy lifestyles, develop good character, and engage in citizenship and public service.
