Meet Ms. Tiffany! Hey! Hey! Clap one time…

Where am I from? I grew up in a small town called Elizabethton about 2 hours from here… almost in North Carolina! We’re known for our Covered Bridge and being the hometown of Jason Witten who plays for the Dallas Cowboys.

Where did I go to School? I went to Unaka High School; where we had less students than DES has! I attended East Tennessee State University for my undergraduate degree in child psychology (Go Bucs!) I finally completed my graduate degree at Carson-Newman University in clinical counseling and school counseling (Go Eagles!)

What are my hobbies? I LOVE to go hiking! My fiancé and I even got engaged while on a hike in Cade’s Cove. I also LOVE skiing! I’m still fairly new at it, but I love trying harder slopes each time I go. Running is also something I enjoy, and I hope to run an 8k before the end of the school year!

Now… You need to meet my coolest family member… CALLIE!

What does a school counselor do? We teach guidance classes We lead small groups for all types of reasons: Friendship, Life Changes, and Drama We see individual students when they need to talk We try to make sure that school is a safe and fun place for all students and will help in any way we can!

Individual/Group Sessions Insert Confidentiality Tree

Individual/Group Sessions Checking In…

How Can I See Ms. Tiffany? My door is always open! Ask your teacher if you ever need to come talk to me before coming to see me Sometimes you might need to leave me a note when: My “Be Bold” sign is on I’m teaching a class I’m not in my room I will get back to you as soon as I can!

How will Ms. Tiffany know I stopped by? Write me a note and leave it in the basket!

Guidance Class What to expect

The Bear Necessities of Behavior BE Safe BE Polite BE Responsible

Be Safe Listen careful to instructions Stay in your space and keep your hands to yourself What other ways can you be safe in the classroom?

BE Polite Help each other and work as a team Share Listen to other student’s ideas Respect each other What else does it mean to be polite in the classroom?

BE Responsible Participate in class Listen to instructions Be creative and work with others How else can someone be responsible in the classroom?

What happens if we are not following the BEar necessities? First Warning: A verbal warning Second Warning: You will be asked to go refocus and complete a “time to teach” worksheet Third Warning: You will be asked to go to the calm down corner for 5 minutes or until you are ready to return to class If you still do not change your behavior…You will go to the office

What happens if we do follow the BEar Necessities? Your class will get dojo points when someone (or everyone) is caught doing one of the BEar necessities! Once your class hits 25 points, you will have a reward day! As a class you will decide between a couple of choices what you want your reward day to be.

What happens if we do follow the BEar Necessities? If you show your best behavior by: Answering questions Asking questions Participating in activities Being respectful to your classmates Then you will be called on to put your name in a cup in the back of the room. The number on the cup goes along with the number on a book. At the end of the month I will pick a winner of the book of the month!

What will a day in guidance typically look like? Come in and take a seat Next we’ll probably read a book because I LOVE books! (I hope you do too) Then we’ll most likely do an interactive activity to get moving Finally we’ll see what we remember from the lesson with an exit ticket of some kind!
