EO Profile of GML and HMA Product Catalog for VITO CVB HMA-T Phase 2 KO Meeting 2-3 July 2008, Frascati Steven Smolders, GIM nv Tim Jacobs, VITO Frédéric Houbie, ERDAS Slide 1

Overview Objectives Consortium Technical work Overview of VITO CVB Overview of products Our Approach WBS, Schedule, Key Personnel, Payment Plan Questions raised at TEB Slide 2

Objectives I1. “To permit the evolution and test of the HMA interoperability standards” by applying the EO Profile of GML (OGC 06-080) and the EO extension Package for ebRIM Profile of CSW (OGC 06-131) on a wide range of EO, derived EO and airborne Products I3. Promote uptake of these standards by European Institutional users and geospatial product developers by applying these standards on VITO CVB systems and hence allow VITO to gain experience by providing a reference implementation for these standards Slide 3

Consortium - Roles GIM VITO ERDAS Coordination Study the application of the EO Profile of GML on VITO products Deploy and host reference EO CSW Catalogue VITO Input into the EO Profile of GML study Provide metadata and auxiliary information for reference implementation ERDAS Provide adapted EO Proxy framework and support for implementation Slide 4

VITO CVB VITO “Centrum voor Beeldverwerking” Current situation hosts the Image Processing Center for SPOT-VEGETATION data (CTIV) develops derived EO products Vegetation Agricultural Recently Atmosphere products (COPS B: AOD , PM10) develops and uses airborne sensors (APEX) Current situation infrastructure developed on a per project basis specific metadata set per CVB Service Desired future situation One Catalogue, harmonised metadata Slide 5

VITO - CVB Slide 6

Systems - Products CTIV Commercial Services Products from the Vegetation sensors onboard SPOT4/SPOT 5 Raw and synthesis products Commercial and free products Slide 7

Systems - Products GeoSuccess, VGT4Africa, MARS Operational products based on remote sensing data, which give timely information on the evolution of the vegetation cover and its related parameters Products to be used in study: other: Biome Classification, Burn Scar Detection, Apparent Green Cover Percentage, Globcarbon products (Burnt area products (BAE), Leaf Area Index (LAI), FAPAR, Vegetation Growth Cycle Parameters (VGCP)) Slide 8

Systems - Products GMFS Global Monitoring for Food Security GSE (GMES Service Element (GSE)) project aims at operational services for crop monitoring in support of Food Security Monitoring to serve policy makers and operational users Products to be used in study: Other products: Cultivated Area, Crop Emergence Periods, Extent of Cultivation, Agricultural Productivity, Crop Yield Assessments Slide 9

Systems - Products Atmosphere products AOD* AOD PM10 developed in context of ESA COPS-B project Aerosol Optical Depth images : measure for extinction of sunlight within atmosphere and hence related to particulate matter Derived from MERIS imagery AOD*: weighted with Boundary Layer Height Derived PM10 concentration maps AOD* AOD PM10 21-12-2007 Slide 10

Systems - Products Apex (Airborn Prism Experiment) developed by VITO, RSL, … on behalf of ESA airborne (dispersive push broom) imaging spectrometer hyperspectral data (300 bands) (wavelength range between 400 nm and 2500 nm ) a spatial ground resolution of 2 m to 5 m. Slide 11

Approach 1) Map existing product metadata for all of the above referenced products on the EO Profile of GML elements Complete existing metadata descriptions with mandatory elements within the EO Profile of GML For elements required to describe the products but missing in the EO Profile of GML metadata, assess the need for a) Vendor Specific elements using the vendorSpecific/SpecificInformation/localAttribute and vendorSpecific/SpecificInformation/ localValue elements b) develop a specific derived GML application schema Outcome: Technical note containing mapping tables, GML instances and (if required) GML application schemas Slide 12

Approach From OGC 06-080r3 Slide 13

Approach 2) Set-up a CSW Catalogue scope to be determined in function of outcome of study Single “VITO Product Family” or combination using ERDAS EO Proxy framework Replica database and (modified) ERDAS EO Proxy framework hosted at GIM Conformance tested (provided that no specific schemas are required) Integrated in the HMA Prototype Operated by GIM for one year after FP Output: Reference implementation, TS, ATP, VTR, CITE Report Slide 14

Approach Slide 15

Work Breakdown Structure Slide 16

Planning & Payment schedule Original Planning KO in October duration of 11 Months Adapted planning Accept revised Payment Schedule Slide 17

Question of TEB Present Plan for take-up of this approach at VITO Memo of VITO and GIM submitted to answer the question Background: study of VITO to recommend standards that improved access to VITO CVB via harmonised web services recommend software products prepare road map for implementation This study is seen as a preparatory step in the road map and will be conducted in parallel with the setup of a prototype of the overall (not only CSW) solution.
